David McCloskey, Thomas McCloskey and Peter Lynch formed Urban Green Investments in 2008 as a real estate investment company positioned to take advantage of new opportunities created by the distressed real estate and financial markets. Once properties are acquired, Urban Green incorporates an asset plan to add value to income producing properties, and employs a green renovation strategy.
Urban Green Investments invests in multi-family, commercial and entitled land real estate in California. Once a property is acquired, UGI adds value by increasing efficiencies, enhancing entitlements, and employing carefully calibrated green renovations. UGI is a fully integrated real estate company with brokerage, property management and development capacities.
David McCloskey, Founder, Chief Executive Officer
David, who has a diverse background in many business ventures, has purchased and sold residential, commercial and mixed use buildings in the San Francisco area for the past six years. David's additional achievements have been in the music profession, aviation flight schools and charter companies. David co-founded and managed the nationally recognized McCloskey Brothers Band. He successfully launched and was the CEO of Cornerstone Aviation Services, and has been involved in various flight school endeavors.
David is a licensed California Real Estate Broker, a commercial pilot and flight instructor, and an accomplished musician. David, also is an avid climber, has ascended the face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. He holds a B.A. in Music Performance from the University of Colorado.
Tom McCloskey, Founder, Chairman
Tom, a founding member of Urban Green Investments, has provided integral leadership since its inception. Tom is the founder of Cornerstone Holdings, a private equity and real estate development company that has provided seed capital to Urban Green Investments. Tom has served as a general partner in over 50 partnerships and has been involved in a variety of diverse business activities. He is Chairman and CEO of Cornerstone Holdings, and McCloskey and Company.
Through his affiliation with Palmer Communications, Palmer Wireless (N PWIR) and now Cornerstone Holdings, he has been involved with high-level strategic development of technology companies and wireless communication markets for the past twenty years.
Tom served as Chairman of Horizon Organic Holdings (NASDAQ:HCOW), the world’s largest organic dairy company from 1993 to 2004, as Director (capital) of Summit Energy Corporation, based in Louisville, Kentucky, and is currently Director of Magna Energy Services.
Tom is the founder of the McCloskey Business Plan Competition at University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. He was formerly Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Thacher School of Ojai, California. Additionally, Tom volunteers with the Leadership Kaua’i Board of Directors, the Advisory Council of University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, and the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, where he has lectured on business ethics.
Tom received a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Aspen, San Francisco, and Kauai with his wife of 38 years. They have four children.
Peter Lynch, Founder, President
Peter has been in the San Francisco real estate investment business since 1989. Before the formation of Urban Green Investments, Peter founded and ran his own real estate investment company, Lynch Investments. Lynch Investments acquired and renovated 65 buildings in San Francisco during that period, and executed many other projects across the country. Peter has now liquidated the assets and retired from Lynch Investments.
Peter holds a Bachelor’s degree from Whitworth College and a Master’s degree from the University of Houston. Peter is also active in the community at the San Francisco Zen Center and the University Club.
Peter Hagist, Asset Manager
Peter has been involved in many aspects of real estate investment and development since 2002. Prior to UGI, Peter was a manager of various developments in Los Angeles. Peter is a licensed California Real Estate Broker. He received a B.A. from the University of Vermont.
John Warner, Brokerage and Sales Manager
John worked for Lynch Investments for ten years before joining UGI. John's areas of focus at Lynch Investments included property acquisitions and sales, capital structure transaction management, tax-deferred exchanges, and investor relations. Prior to Lynch Investments, John managed several multiplex movie theatres for a national theatre chain and concurrently operated his own retail business in San Francisco. John attended the University of California at San Diego where he studied literature and photography. John is a licensed California Real Estate Broker.
Kevin Skiles, Asset Manager
Kevin has been an active sponsor and manager of real estate investments in the Western United States since 1998. Prior to UGI, he developed infill single family subdivisions, repositioned institutional quality multi-family investments and entitled and redeveloped office buildings in San Francisco. Kevin is a licensed Architect and a graduate of MIT's Real Estate Development program.
Michael Karpowicz, Asset Manager and General Counsel
Michael joined Urban Green Investments in June 2010. His responsibilities include executing asset plans and managing the Company’s legal affairs. Previously, Michael has worked as a law clerk for Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing. in Honolulu, HI, and co-managed a start-up business in Colorado. Most recently, he worked as a proxy research associate for Glass, Lewis & Co. in San Francisco.
Michael earned his B.A. in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Notre Dame in 2005 and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco in 2009. While in law school he earned a Business Law Certificate with Honors and received CALI Awards for Excellence in Evidence and International Business and Civil Dispute Resolution. He is a current member of the California Bar.
Neville Vere Nicoll, Investor Relations
Neville is in charge of investor relations and fundraising. Neville has been involved in the venture capital and private equity business for 24 years, both as an investor and a CEO of venture-backed and public companies. He structures all of the private investments made by Urban Green Investments. Additionally, he has served on over 10 portfolio company boards where he has nurtured each company's growth, negotiated most acquisitions and been instrumental in numerous sales and recapitalizations.
Neville was a past President and CEO of Kryptonics, a leading manufacturer of sporting goods products from 1995 to 1998. From 1991 to 1995, Neville was President and CEO of Coricon Corporation, a public company that manufactured document readers. From 1983 to 1991, Neville was a founder and partner of the UK based Beaverbrook Group, a venture capital and private equity company that invested in healthcare companies in the United States and Europe.
Neville has a degree from the European Business School in Paris, France.
John Ord, Chief Financial Officer
John, also involved with Urban Green Investments since its inception, has been integral in the formation and structuring of the company. John is responsible for the reporting, taxes and financial analysis of past, current and prospective assets of Urban Green Investments.
John has over twenty years experience in financial management, strategic development and acquisition activities of publicly and privately held companies. Prior to joining Cornerstone and Urban Green Investments, John was CFO of Kryptonics, a leading manufacturer of sporting goods from 1997 to 1998. From February 1981 to February 1997, John was Vice President of Finance for Rustco Products, a $60 million food processor in Denver.
John holds a B.S. in Economics and Business Administration from Colorado State University, a Masters of Technology Management degree from the University of Denver, and has practiced as a licensed CPA in the State of Colorado.
Amy Lin, Controller
Amy implements and oversees all accounting policies and procedures for UGI. Since 1997 she has worked for Lynch Investments and has been in accounting and financial management for real estate, property management and construction companies since 1990. She has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in accounting, from San Francisco State University. Amy also holds a California real estate license.
