Urban Green was established in 2008 as a partnership for investors seeking urban real estate investments in San Francisco. Since then the company has grown substantially, having acquired projects comprised of over 4,200 units, approximately 3,800 planned/entitled units, and 1.8MM square feet of commercial space in markets throughout the United States.

As a developer and sponsor of its own projects in addition to that of its partners, Urban Green recognizes the value that each General Partner (GP) brings to any particular joint venture (JV). GP’s earn a greater share of profits than just their pro-rata equity participation. The share of the profits that GPs earn for their work is commonly referred to as “promote” or “carried interest”. For instance, while GPs may only invest 10% of the equity in a transaction, they will likely earn greater than 10% of the profits. Investing with Urban Green in the Co-GP portion of the capital stack allows investors to potentially out-earn the larger capital source of the investment.

Urban Green sold a 52 unit apartment complex in June 2018 in a unique off-market sale to the City of Portland,  who will convert the property to affordable housing.
